Sustainability
Sustainability is a non-negotiable, core component of the Mya Rose brand. From the outset, founder and designer Claire has been passionate about making the brand as low impact as possible. All fabrics and trims have to be sourced sustainably, either with natural or recycled fibres, and as many with certifications as possible. The focussed collection is made to order in the UK with a limited number of styles each season, avoiding oversampling, overproduction and with a lower carbon footprint.
For clarity and transparency, all fabrics and items of haberdashery for each garment are listed on the website so you know exactly what goes into each piece, and we continue to make all sourcing as eco-friendly as possible.
Fabrics
We take great care sourcing fabrics as sustainably as possible. This includes using natural fibres like silk, Tencel and even fabrics made from organic orange fibres. All our linings are made from 100% organic bamboo, sourced from sustainably managed, FSC certified forests. Where we use polyester it is recycled, respun and responsibly woven from post-consumer PET waste such as plastic bottles, diverted from landfill or reclaimed from the seas.
Haberdashery
And while fabrics are the most discussed, there are so many other elements that make up a dress. We believe that each of these should also be sourced with the same respect as the fabrics themselves. To this end, all of our zips, threads and brand labels are recycled, elastic is a blend of organic cotton and natural rubber, we use Tencel or organic cotton ribbons and tapes. Boning is stainless steel rather than plastic as this can be recycled indefinitely. Buttons are made from a natural corozo, which is a naturally harvested nut with a similar consistency to a hard resin once dried.
Printing
We love a romantic print at Mya Rose, and are delighted to be able to offer printed garments using eco-friendly inks which are Oeko-tex and GOTS 6.0 approved, using 95% less energy in the printing process than are used in traditional textile printing. Only 100% renewable energy sources are used and all printing takes place in a zero-to-landfill facility in the UK.
